Re: The "Crowds" Library

The only problem is you listed that you would like the sounds at 96k/24bit. Mine were recorded at 48k/24bit. Do you mind if I "up-res" to 96k? Or does that defeat the purpose of the whole shebang? I would be more than happy to contribute a few files to the cause. Hey David! Welcome to the party, gl...

Re: "Our Ambient World" Metadata

...For those who don't use soundminer, is there any chance a metadata embedded version of library could shared? All the other metadata editors don't support as many fields as soundminer (which makes me a sad panda). I definitely think that could be arranged. :D Mike, any chance we could use the sam...

Re: The "Crowds" Library

...is it worth being a little more comprehensive with our descriptions on the metadata? Purely for the reason that this is a crowd sourced library from all over the world, so being quite granular with description is not such a bad thing (as the whole point of this is to collect as many weird and wo...

Re: The "Crowds" Library

Hi Alex, Thanks for your help. That's all really helpful. I tend to edit recordings down to what's useful and try to keep processing to a minimum but I wanted to confirm whether there were any specific guidelines for this library. Meant to ask this in the original post. What is the average audio le...

Re: The "Crowds" Library

Can you offer any guidance on the amount of editing that should (or shouldn't) be done to the submitted sounds? i.e. would you prefer a totally raw recording or is a little EQ ok if required (probably just a high-pass)? Some of the recordings I've made have obvious disturbances/distractions in (sud...

Re: The "Crowds" Library

You'll also find in the games industry a much heavier leaning towards Windows as opposed to Apple, primarily due to game engine toolsets only being developed for the single platform. Couple with tight deadlines, fast turnaround, crunching - speed is of the essence, so filenames (and filenaming conv...

"Our Ambient World" Metadata

Hey all-- I'm attaching a tab-delimited text file to this post that contains metadata for the Ambient World sound library. For those of you with Soundminer, this will allow you to quickly and easily inject Description, Source, Microphone, Location, and Library information that's a little more consis...

Re: The "Crowds" Library

Mike, I know a standard Finder search will include some metadata in the scope. To what extent, I've never tested, but some libraries pop up in standard finder searches that only match metadata. Maybe we can run some tests to find out how to do that so that any extra keywords included in the descrip...

Re: The "Crowds" Library

Awesome! I'll post the file up in a new thread tomorrow morning. Mike, any chance you wouldn't mind making it a sticky thread so people will know that they should grab it?

Re: Using Various EQs

Where is the like button on this forum!? Great stuff, Alex. Haha, glad you guys are finding some of this stuff interesting/useful! Happy to share what little knowledge I've accumulated so far. :D No kiddin'. I have about a thousand follow-up questions just from that post alone. Nice. Ask away Joe (...
