This game was released in 1990.
Spoiler:
Smash TV - A 1990 arcade game created by Eugene Jarvis and Mark Turmell for Williams.[1] It is a dual-stick shooter in the same vein as its predecessor, Robotron: 2084 (also produced by Jarvis). As in the previous game, players battle waves of enemies by using guns. The plot of Smash TV revolves around a futuristic game show in which players compete for various prizes as well as their lives.

I actually played the SNES version and the "Good luck, you'll need it" line triggered good memories :)
Thanks for keeping this forum going :)

Oh cool! I didn't even know they had a SNES version. That's awesome. Rumors are they are releasing a SNES Mini this holiday. I'm so geeked if that's true!

I am quite keen too.
Also, let's ignore the poor taste bikini ladies (although they make perfect sense if you read the game as a satire, which would not be too crazy)
