Book Recommendations

Post by MikeQuell » February 4th, 2014, 10:04 am

I was browsing the net and came across this book. I was wondering if anyone here has read it and what they thought.

"Noise: A Human History of Sound and Listening" by David Hend

What other great books have you read that are on the topic of audio/sound?

One of the first audio books I ever read was David Sonnenscheins Sound Design: The Expressive Power of Music, Voice and Sound Effects in Cinema Still holds to be one of my favorite books. I enjoyed Sound Design and Science Fiction as well.

I have read the first section of it - through kindle preview I think, and it is very very interesting. I had forgotten about it until now actually - so I may well go home and make a purchase. it's a great insight into how we, as humans perceive sound and the history behind our hearing. Give the preview a shot and see what you think.

I liked both of those.

I got a lot out of Yewdall's "Practical Art of Motion Picture Sound," though the file-naming in his chapters on ProTools drove me nuts, as did his constant misspelling of "vocoder." :ugeek:
